I was touched.

Last night consisted of the following, in this order.

  1. Dinner.
(Olivia found the most amazing place I have been in Auckland ever. To eat: Stuffed calamari and a pot of mussels, to much to eat alone, ideal to share. To drink: Cocktails, mine had pieces of fruit with a higher alcohol content than it takes to get me tipsy. Olivia’s drink was about 10 times manlier than mine.)
  2. Catfish - World Cinema Showcase.
(Mind-fucking, sense making, yet confusing piece of cinema, resulting in a good 10 minutes of one worded conversation, conversation mostly consisted of “Wow.” and “WHAT?”.)
  3. I was touched by a strange man in the elevator.
(It was bizarre. You see, I had forgotten to take the parking ticket with me when heading up to the cinema, so I was unable to get if validated. So we went to the car to get it and Liv decided she would rather wait there than come on an exciting adventure with me. I was on the bottom level of the car park, and was heading to the top. Second to top floor EVERYONE who was in the lift with me gets out on the casino deck. Three men get in, one really dodgy looking man in a hawian shirt who decided the best place to stand in the virtually empty elevator was in the space RIGHT beside me. He also felt the necessity to rest his arm on the hand rail behind me, just close enough to have a touch. By now I was internally soiling myself, and inched away from him. The elevator stops and its my floor, and apparently it looks as if I need help to leave the elevator, and Mr Creep decideds he should PROBABLY grab the small of my back and shoulder and help me out of the lift. I needed no help getting out of there. And the running began.)
  4. I witnessed two sides of a stranger in the same elevator.
(People suck, I saw two couples talking. One of the women who was absolutely beautiful and seemed really nice, was in a wheelchair. The conversation between the two couples was pleasant, until the moment the woman in the wheelchair and her partner left the elevator, in which the remaining woman began talking smack about the other woman, and quest ioning whether it was “a birth thing or an accident”.)
  5. Took Liv home.
    (Then returned home myself.)
  6. Checked my email, had a cup of tea and a phone call with Frances.
(My recent battle with Otto Woo had been won, and I was entitled to a free meal and got a massive apology, I knocked back a cup of White tea. Sam describes white tea as the Speed of the tea world. A phone call with Frances then resulted in me sharing the magic of my white tea with her and Sam.
  7. Went to Frances’ house armed with three tea bags.
    (Conversation ensued.)
  8. Drove to Botany to pick up a film.
(I am married to my work. Well, actually it’s more like I’m going steady with my work and occasionally put in a bit of my own time to drive around. Regardless, I ended up with a massive 35mm print in the back of my car, which took up a lot of space.)
  9. Went to a house party. This photo showed up on the internet from that party. Find James.

(It was awesome. A lot of cool people I had not seen in a while.)
  10. Picked up other James
(It was still the Mac’s Birthday, so the partying continued.)
  11. Dropped film off at my house.
(Thus freeing up 3 seats in my car.)
  12. Went to a house party in Kingsland.
(There were not that many people there, but there were four people there named James. It was awesome on that basis and no other.)
  13. Drove more people than can fit in my car to town.
    (Gosh they were rowdy.)
  14. Saved Flatmate.
(We had actually been trying to save said flatmate from the big city since about point number 7, or 4 hours earlier, but that’s how things went.
  15. Returned home.
  16. Adjusted clocks.
(Scored an extra hour due to daylight savings being a bawss.)
  17. Slept.
    (FOR FUCKING AGES.)
  18. Cooked breakfast for flatmates.
(Bagels with bacon, egg, cheese basil, tomato, onion, capsicum and relish. Served with Earl Grey.)

The moral of the story is; don’t let strangers touch you in elevators, and any story that ends with bagels and Earl Grey, and contains at least one other type of tea, is a story worth sharing.
